(Cost Effective Support Services for Senior Citizens & their Care-Givers)
The Need:
There is a Need for Cost Effective Assisted Independent Living for Elders in their own homes. The Growing Ageing community prefers to remain Integrated in society (Inclusion) instead of isolation in Old Age Homes or Retirement Communities or depend on others including family members.
The growth in population in India is about 2 % and the ageing population growing at about 4 %. Presently the ageing population above 60 years is estimated to be about 22% globally. The Market is huge and growing.
In addition, others (not Elders) could also use the services of Project Vishram to meet their Needs. This would help to rapidly build up Scale of Volumes and
enhance visibility and awareness.
A Possible Solution (with Key functions) and how it addresses the need
The Key functionaries of Project Vishram are:
1) Relationship Managers (RMs) working from home with the App to meet a variety of needs of Elders and Caregivers. The App is an aggregation of Apps and Telephone Nos of existing Service (Medical and Non-Medical) Providers of the Locality with minimal additions to infrastructure. This would also facilitate Digital Inclusion.
2) Volunteers to meet the routine needs of Elders on the lines of Time Bank Switzerland https://www.moneyland.ch/en/time-banking-currency-switzerland-guide.
Volunteers would be compensated with redeemable points. The points could be used to get services for themselves or for beneficiaries they assign. The points earned for serving Elders would be double the points earned than for services to others - Not Elders. The points earned by Volunteering could be given a weight age by the Corporate Sector for employment or for admissions for courses internationally or for fee waivers or for Scholarships/ Fellowships. This would encourage/motivate the younger Generation to Volunteer for Community Services or Social Causes.
Target customers and why they would be interested in Project Vishram
The priority target customers are Elders and Caregivers who are missing out on Digital Inclusion. Others could also use the Services. The services would be a part of Assisted Living for Elders who cherish a Life of Dignity integrated in Society in their own homes and familiar surroundings. Elders could also serve as Relationship Managers working from home and earn a honorarium. They could also volunteer and earn Redeemable Points for themselves or assigned to those they choose.
Not for Profit Model
The aim of the Business is Not for Profit and the objective is to build Caring Communities with a spirit of Volunteering for all ages particularly from young ages. Volunteers are compensated with Redeemable Points - Cashless Currency similar to Time Bank Switzerland https://www.moneyland.ch/en/time-banking-currency-switzerland-guide. These points could be exchanged for services required by volunteers themselves or assigned to Elders of their choice.
The revenues generated will be through a subscription model for Premium Services where Relationship Managers (RMs) facilitate the Concierge Services through existing Service Providers of the Locality through Apps and Telephone Nos. This would be apart from the model where RMs and Volunteers earn redeemable points for providing physical help and emotional support to minimize isolation. The revenues generated from the subscription model is to meet the overheads of Software Development, Cloud Hosting, Marketing, use of Emerging Technologies like AI, Data Analytics, etc. RMs would still be required to provide the human touch even when Emerging Technologies provide some degree of automation.
Innovative /Novelty/Unique features of the possible solution.
The innovative features are in the use of:
1) Social Currency to encourage volunteering
2) Redeemable Points as a Compensation to RMs and Volunteers for Services rendered.
3) The Redeemable Points could be used for self or assigned to others.
4) Higher points earned for volunteering for Elders to maintain the focus of facilitating Services for Elders.
5) Project Vishram would also help to empower Elders to use their Skills and Experience for Mutual Help and to earn Redeemable Points for themselves.
6) Elders would continue to be Contributors in Society with Self Respect and Dignity instead of being Passive Consumers.
At present there are no competitors who are using a combination of Relationship Managers (RMs) and Volunteers with redeemable Points. There are a few Service Providers focused on select Sectors like Medical Services or Banking. Project Vishram is into Multiple services to meet most of the Needs of Elders.
We would like to have the idea/solution as an open source for others including the Corporate Sector to take it as a part of CSR. We would like to have the concept replicated and continuously improved with AI and Emerging Technologies in multiple areas Globally.

The Social Impact that the venture can generate
The Social Impact of Project Vishram is to encourage the younger Generation to value the Joy of Volunteering and build Caring Communities Globally.
Current status of the business and achievements so far
At present we are using a concept of Sky Blue (used in IAF) for Project Vishram with a Trial of 15 Mini Whatsapp groups of 5 members/Coordinator in each group. Sky Blue used in the Indian Air Force (IAF) was to monitor the 'OK' status of the Units on a daily basis. Sky Blue messages were sent from individual units at close of working hours to Command HQs and onward to Air HQ, the Raksha Mantri (Defence Minister) and Prime Minister if situation warrants).
The Trials of Sky Blue Services - Free Alert System is a precursor to Web based App services. The Alert system requires each member of the group to send a 'OK' status message to their own Group every day morning before 10 am. Challenges beyond the capability of individual Coordinators of the small groups are progressively escalated to the next tier of Alerts as Exception Reporting. Multiple tiers of Alert Groups (like in Medical Services with Primary Health centers..../District/....National Health Centers.) would take on bigger and complex challenges. The formation of small Groups also helps to gather a Database of Elders who would be requiring services for Independent Living.
The next stage is the development of Web based App services to gather:
1) Data of prospective users, family members not co located, Volunteers for Services with Redeemable points, RMs and Service Providers for Premium services
2) Data and transactions stored on the cloud and
3) Marketing through Social Media and Digital platforms to targeted audiences.
The concept and feasibility got 'Project Vishram' to the top 400 of the Smartfifty.com contest 2018 of Govt of India and Indian Institute of Management, Calcutta from more than 15,000 applicants worldwide. We did not get into Top 50 due to the absence of a working model.
A back end website would have the database of the EUs, RMs, SPs and Transactions.
The 3 features in the App linked to the back end website are:
1) EU (Elder or Care Giver) screen with the Vishram icon. A touch on the icon would alert Multiple RMs of the locality (GPS).
2) RM screen would show EU profile, Cash Balance and Pull down menu of SPs.
3) Admin screen would have access to all screens and rate EUs, RMs and SPs
Any of the RMs could choose to respond to any alerts of EUs with no compulsion (like Uber/Ola Drivers). If no RM responds or if the RM who responds is unable to complete the task, the alert is routed back to the pool/Admin with details as a 'Missed Call' on Admin/RM's screen.
The main revenue is to come from commissions payable from Service Providers (SPs) when we reach a 'Critical mass' of memberships.
We need partners. It could be a Sustainable Business or CSR project.
